SABIF held various presentations in 2024 including:

  • 11th June 2024 – 5th Sense by Helen Rhodes
  • 10th September 2024 – Welfare Benefits by Victor Feltham
  • 8th October 2024 – Functional Neurological Disorder with Flora McMullen from the Proclaim Group
  • Dr Anuraj Varshney – Return to driving after a brain injury talk.

Presentations for 2025:

  • Nick Thorpe – Return to work/Discrimination – 29.4.25 at 3.30 pm
  • Clare Mehta – Sussex Rehabilitation Service – 13.5.25 at 4.15 pm
  • Poster Event 17.6.25 at Headway Sussex – in person.
  • Further anticipated presentations include a representative from IMCA (Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy) a service which supports people when they are assessed to lack capacity.

BISWG - The Brain Injury Social Work Group are holding a Conference on 11th September 2025 at Fetal Medicine Research Institute, 16-20 Windsor Walk, London, SE5 8BB with a number of impressive Presenters covering many important areas within the Brain Injury arena.

  • Welcome from the Chair Dr Caroline Bald, Chair of the Brain Injury Social Work Group and introduction David Glover, Assistant Director of Social Work & Adult Safeguarding, King’s College Hospital.
  • Navigating the gaps between hospital and home - this session will be delivered by members of the multi-disciplinary team from the Frank Cooksey Unit 
  • Attending to the Scaffolding: ABI Champions, Neuro Cafés and Criminal Justice Pathways
  • The Mind’s Disconnect: Understanding Capacity Challenges in Brain Injury and Psychiatry
  • Heads Together and the NIHR Brain Injury Incubator
  • Neurorehabilitation for Traumatic Brain Injury in Children
  • Do P’s wishes matter? Section 4 of the MCA 2005 and is there a “False Personal Autonomy?”
  • Reaching across the divide – how independent case managers can facilitate effective collaboration between private and statutory services.
